As I sit here recovering I had to take time to thank you and your fine company for the ways in which you aided me in my recovery. As I faced upcoming surgery on my right hip I decided to look into employing an aide to assist me. Fortunately for me, my dearest friend had used One Patient At A Time when she needed help and was well pleased with the care provided. In her lifetime she was an aide at CT. Valley Hospital for her entire work career and had many definite opinions on what she expected. Before she passed she shared her thoughts on your company and what it meant to her. It certainly took lots of the guesswork out of the equation for me. Mike, the owner, answered on the first ring and I explained my need for assistance. We made an appointment to meet the following Tuesday. Mike and Annmarie, husband and wife, were right on time and we spent the next half hour discussing what I needed and the services they offered. Mike was meticulous in explaining every bit of their contract and what I could expect. I found them responsive to my needs and how they would be met. They showed willingness to adjust our contract if something unexpected arose. They were both warm and friendly while professional throughout our meeting. When my friend was their client she was attended by Alice and fortunately, she would be available when I needed her. Déjà vu….lucky me. The following day Annmarie brought Alice to my home to personally introduce us and cover any last minute questions. I thought it was a wonderful way to eliminate any possible future awkwardness. Upon discharge Alice arrived promptly as promised and I immediately felt comfortable with her. Alice was amazing. Our time together was comfortable and easy. She is the mother of four boys and still has the energy to care for others. In her soft spoken way she simply did everything needed, be it with me or my surroundings. Make no mistake….Alice was in charge and it’s wonderful that she was. She kept safety in mind at all times. She allowed me my dignity and still attended to my needs. As I look back on my experience with One Patient At A Time I am 100% satisfied. I would urge anyone looking for assistance to give Mike & Annmarie a call, You won’t be sorry! Sincerely, Marie S.

I was very intimidated in my search to find quality in home care services for our mother. Too many stories about care givers not showing up, caregiver turnover because they quit (it’s a hard job) and caregivers simply not doing anything. My first call to OPAAT gave me hope that we would not experience this. Mike made it clear to me in our first conversation that they can competently do the chores, the light housekeeping and companionship but he made it very clear to me that their services were about people. OPAAT has been providing service for our 92 year old mom for 2 months. They were very compassionate, experienced and patient at the beginning when it was hard for Mom to deal with this change and accept help and from a stranger! Mike, AnneMarie and their caregivers we have walk the talk and are truly special people to deal with such difficult, personal work at a stage of life with so many challenges. At the end of our first two months Mom has come a long way and really bonded with her caregiver. We are very pleased with OPAAT. So far, so good! I look forward to provide a review after many months of the same excellent, knowledgeable and compassionate service.

We have used One Patient at a Time for a couple of months in 2024 while our mother was rehabbing from a car accident. The care that is given is awesome and the owners are kind, caring and compassionate! They listen to your wants and needs and follow up to make sure you are happy with the care you are receiving from their caregiver's . We are using them again in 2025 and are still using them to this day for my mom. I cannot say enough about this company or the caregiver that our mom has. I highly recommend One Patient at a Time!

Mike and Anne Marie are great to work with. They are responsive, offer insight and assistance. In managing my mom’s care from another state, they have been incredibly helpful. The caregivers that we have worked with are excellent. The fact that they have been able to provide consistency in the people coming to care for my mother has brought us a lot of comfort. They have always come thru for us. I cannot say enough about the quality of care and service that they provide.

Home health care was at my home. The Francises came to our house for an “intake “ before they sent an aide to us. Mike and Ann Marie are kind and gentle and run their service with utmost integrity. We had an aide for eight weeks while I was recovering from surgery. Not only did she take care of my medical needs like showering and dressing, but also straightening the house and keeping me safe when my husband went grocery shopping. She was kind and efficient and regaled us with stories with a fine sense of humor. Don’t call anyone else! This company is the real deal.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does home care differ from moving to a nursing home or assisted living facility?

Home care allows your loved one to remain in their own home, a place filled with personal memories and comfort. Unlike moving to a facility, care is delivered one-on-one and tailored entirely to the individual’s routines. It’s often a more affordable and less disruptive option, promoting independence while providing the necessary support.

What is the first step to starting care for my loved one in Portland?

The first step is a free, no-obligation in-home assessment. We’ll visit your family in Portland, listen to your specific concerns, and evaluate the senior’s daily needs and preferences. This helps us build a personalized care plan before we match you with a compatible caregiver.

Can your caregivers help with medical tasks or just daily living activities?

Our caregivers focus on non-medical support to keep seniors safe and comfortable at home. This includes personal care assistance (bathing, dressing), companion care, homemaker services (meals, laundry), and specialized memory care. For skilled medical tasks (like wound care or injections), we coordinate seamlessly with home health agencies and family doctors.

How do you ensure consistency, so my loved one sees the same caregiver?

We understand that trust and familiarity are essential. We work hard to match your loved one with a consistent caregiver based on personality, skills, and schedule compatibility. Our local presence in Portland allows us to manage schedules carefully so your family builds a genuine, trusting relationship with the same caring faces.

What makes your memory care at home different from a memory care facility?

Familiarity. For someone with Alzheimer’s or dementia, their own home is often the least confusing environment. Our memory care focuses on creating calm, predictable daily routines within that familiar setting reducing anxiety and agitation that can come with moving to a new place. We provide safety supervision and structured support without the trauma of relocation.

How do you screen and train your caregivers?

Every caregiver undergoes thorough background checks, reference verification, and skills assessments. Beyond that, they receive ongoing training in personal care, fall prevention, dementia care, and compassionate communication. We hire for both skill and heart, ensuring they treat your loved one with the same patience and respect you would.

Experience Care That Feels Personal

If your family is exploring care options in Portland, we are here to help you take the next step with confidence.
